What is Pilates?

Pilates, when done in a classical setting, is a series of movements put in motion to stretch the muscles, elongate the spine, engage and stabilize the core and balance the bodies overall presence. When performed on a mat, the exercise series demands more from the muscles and joints. This format is challenging but extremely rewarding.

Using specially designed equipment, such as the reformer, movements have more resistance yet more precision, and bodies respond with a better sense of spatial awareness. Each series of exercises are done with short repetitions of 3 to 8 with emphasis on movement quality not quantity.

As the body transitions thru the series, your body gains better muscle memory of proper body alignment and muscle stabilization. The results over time are a more toned, balanced and strengthened yet relaxed and healthy body composition.
